LYRICS
she dreams of calling someone home
someone to talk to, someone to wake up with
her life, didn’t turn out quite the way
she expected and today she’s thirty-seven
fighting loneliness
and she’s still holding on,
to a feeling that someone’s there
Alela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
lela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
lela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
le lalah..
she lies awake at night
on her skin and bones
her fears burn like fire
while shadows dance around her
but she’s still holding on,
to a feeling that someone’s there
Alela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
lela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
lela, lelah, lelah, la lelah
le lalah..
THE PROCESS
I sit down to contemplate and ask myself: Where do we belong? What or who do you call ”home”? Am I supposed to have kids at some point? If I would be a woman, how would I experience the life I live now? What’s behind the emptiness and sadness that echoes inside me? Are there other people feeling the same like me? Do other people feel overwhelmed like me at times? I am 27 today, in ten years I’ll be 37, who will I be then? What will have happened? Who will I meet and who will I loose? How will I feel? . .
.
Behind every person there’s an ocean of emotions, stories and connections beyond comprehension. We all experience the world in our own singular way and the idea of togetherness might feel like an illusion even when standing in a crowd of thousands of people, in the end we are the constant that remains through the changes of time as people come and go in our lives. A place where I do experience unity however is in music. The very nature of music is to unify and connect people with stories, feelings and emotions.
Alela was born out of reflecting on the questions above and the desire of connecting, creating a space of togetherness. We wanted to focus on holding on to hope, to the longing of arriving home, to the possibility of meeting Alela, whoever that represents for the listener.
Now Alela is out there – out here, she was made with all our love and today she’s off to travel the world to finally meet all of you. Big thanks to Tuukka Aitoaho, Markus Söderström & Peter Enroth, who plays with me on the track, to Miguel Díaz who mixed and mastered it and to Timothée Dorr and Tamara González Casado who took part as co-writers of the song.
